Foz do Iguaçu is located in the extreme west of the state of Paraná, on the so-called triple border between Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina and is one of the most important tourist destinations in Brazil. The city today has approximately 285 thousand inhabitants, and offers imposing natural beauty (the Falls) and great human works (Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant, the second largest in the world in size and first in energy generation) Located on the border between Brazil and Argentina, the Iguaçu Falls are a breathtaking natural spectacle. With its 275 majestic waterfalls, reaching up to 80 meters high on the Iguaçu River, the place is home to the Iguaçu National Park, a vast conservation area covering 185 thousand hectares. The Iguaçu Falls are the second most visited place by foreigners in Brazil. In 1986, the Falls were declared a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO and, in 2012, they were elected as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World.
